These songs were written by fifth graders under the guidance of Monty Harper during a songwriting residency at Richmond Elementary School in Stillwater, Oklahoma in Spring 2016. The songs were written in cooperation with the Oklahoma State University Science Cafe and were used to help two scientists present their work at a public science cafe event. Made possible with support from the Oklahoma Arts Council.
lyrics
Effective Detective,
Where did they go?
The monarchs are dying
Their numbers are low
Effective Detective,
Use your microscope
Bring us an answer
Give us some hope
Effective Detective, oh what will you do?
Monarchs are in trouble, oh what will you do?
Parasites are lurking, oh what will you do?
Detectivus Plexippus, oh what will you do?
Effective Detective
Is it parasites?
The butterfly larvae
Have lost their appetites
Effective Detective
See the stringy white goo
Hanging from the chrysalis
Is it a clue?
Effective Detective, oh what will you do?
Monarchs are in trouble, oh what will you do?
Parasites are lurking, oh what will you do?
Detectivus Plexippus, oh what will you do?
She investigates with her scientific mind
Like Scooby Dooby Doo, with all the clues she can find
Is it protozoa or the Tachinid fly?
When butterflies die, she figures out why
Effective Detective, oh what will you do?
Monarchs are in trouble, oh what will you do?
Parasites are lurking, oh what will you do?
Detectivus Plexippus, what will you do?
