Round-eared and cute, they leap among the rocks Like long furry noodles wearing short black socks They have beady little eyes, and masks upon their faces Their noses and their whiskers are for underground spaces But their prairie homes are ruined ‘cause we didn't have a clue So now we only see them in the zoo. Bring back the black footed ferret Bring em back bring em back We need to make em feel at home now In their Oklahoma habitat Bring back the black footed ferret We brought em back from the brink Now bring em back to Oklahoma Don't ever let em go extinct They were the ninjas of the prairie, slinking through the night Sneaking up on prairie dogs to grab a tasty bite But the prairie dogs were poisoned. Their numbers went down It's getting pretty rare to find a prairie dog town That's why we nearly lost the ferrets, and that's just wrong So now you know the reason for our song Bring back the black footed ferret Bring em back bring em back We need to make em feel at home now In their Oklahoma habitat Bring back the black footed ferret We brought em back from the brink Now bring em back to Oklahoma Don't ever let em go extinct Only 18 ferrets were left alive But captive breeding is letting them thrive Anyone could help them, you or me Go to black footed ferret dot o r g Black footed ferret dot o r g Bring back the black footed ferret Bring em back bring em back We need to make em feel at home now In their Oklahoma habitat Bring back the black footed ferret We brought em back from the brink Now bring em back to Oklahoma Don't ever let em go extinct Yeah bring em back to Oklahoma Don't ever let em go extinct

Turtle Talk 02:51
You're listening to Turtle Talk We talk to turtles from around the world I'm Shelley. I'm Sheldon. Today we're talking habitat Caller number one, you're on the air… Tell us where you're at Hi, this is the sea turtle I have something to share My home is becoming a trash dump I don't think it's fair Humans are polluting the ocean And no one seems to care I wish I could live on land I bet it's cleaner there We're sorry - to hear that It must be hard for you We have another turtle on the line… Let's hear from caller two Hi, this is the desert tortoise I have something to share My home is becoming a golf course I don't think it's fair Humans are taking the desert away And no one seems to care I wish I could live in the ocean I bet it's bigger there You're listening to Turtle Talk We talk to turtles from around the world Well, Shelley… Yes, Sheldon? Sounds like our last two callers agree It's getting pretty bad on land AND sea Humans are giving us turtles the blues Can any turtle call with better news? Hi, this is the red eared slider I have a different view The way you talk about humans I don't think it's true I live with human kids They know what to do I've seen humans clean their messes In land and water too They want to fix your homes And make things right for you Thanks for calling, Red eared slider That's really good to know Let's hope you're right about that Now it’s time to go You've been listening to Turtle Talk We talk to turtles from around the world

about

These songs were written with Richmond Elementary 4th graders in Stillwater, OK during a Monty Harper residency in the spring semester 2013. They were inspired by a visit from the Oklahoma City Zoo during which we met similar animals in person!
